Host Odisha won the team title, bagging 34 gold, 30 silver and 49 bronze medals in the 3rd All-India Open Karate Championship, which concluded at Saheed Nagar Indoor Hall from January 13 to 15. West Bengal finished runners-up with nine gold, nine silver and nine bronze, while Madhya Pradesh occupied the third position with eight gold, nine silver and 16 bronze medals.
Odisha`s Santosh Moharana and Deepak Kumar Samantara emerged champions in men`s open fight and open kata categories. The top honour in women`s open kata went to Sweta Gupta of West Bengal. The three-day championship was organised by Shukokai Karate-do Union India in association with Utkal Karate School.
